Brachial Plexus Block, a Comparison of Nerve Locator versus Paresthesia Technique
نویسندگان
چکیده
Brachial plexus block using local anaesthetics is used widely for upper limb surgery. Proper identification of the nerve bundle is very important to inject local anaesthetic. Methods like paresthesia technique, nerve locator technique and ultrasound is used to identify the nerve bundle. The oldest is the parestheia technique and it causes few complications like inadequate block, failed block, in-advertent puncture of the blood vessels and temporary damage of the nerve. Nerve locator is a simple instrument available to locate the nerve bundle. The present study is aimed at comparing the brachial plexus block using paresthesia technique versus nerve locator technique.

USING PHYSICAL EXAMINATION IN SUPRACLAVICULAR BRACHIAL PLEXUS BLOCK WITH MODIFIED PARASCALENE APPROACH
Background: Because nerve stimulators are not always available for brachial plexus block, fmding the right injection spot for nerve blocks is important. In this study we used physical examination to determine the appropriate spot for injection. Methods: All patients who were candidates for upper extremity surgery and were either in class ASA I or ASA II, were selected. Paresthesia was elici...
متن کاملComparison between Conventional and Ultrasound-Guided Supraclavicular Brachial Plexus Block in Upper Limb Surgeries
INTRODUCTION Brachial plexus blockade is a time-tested technique for upper limb surgeries. The classical approach using paresthesia technique is a blind technique and may be associated with a higher failure rate and injury to the nerves and surrounding structures. To avoid some of these problems, use of peripheral nerve stimulator and ultrasound techniques were started which allowed better loca...
متن کامل1,001 subclavian perivascular brachial plexus blocks: success with a nerve stimulator.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Among the supraclavicular approaches to the brachial plexus, the subclavian perivascular technique is a well-established method of anesthesia of the upper extremity. Ever since Kulenkampf described his technique, eliciting a paresthesia has been almost mandatory ("no paresthesia, no anesthesia"). Lately, nerve stimulators have become more popular. However, up to the pr...

متن کاملSupraclavicular brachial plexus block using a nerve stimulator and an insulated needle.
A technique employing a nerve stimulator and an insulated needle was used for supraclavicular brachial plexus block in 71 patients using 0.5% plain bupivacaine 15-20 ml. The mean minimal stimulating current to produce paraesthesia was 0.09 mA. The plexus was identified at a mean depth of 27 mm below the skin. The block was successful in 98% of patients when the stimulation was felt in the index...
